With the signing of the first contract for the construction of a COCCUS® Mini plant in the Nordic country, Schmack Biogas, a PLC Group company, continues to consolidate its presence in European markets.
Bolzano, May 26, 2022. Schmack Biogas has signed a contract for the construction of a biogas power plant COCCUS® Mini 100, fed with sewage sludge and degreasing screens sludge, to be built at the wastewater treatment plant in the city of Pieksämäki in the South Savo region.
The plant will be construct for Pieksämen Vesi Oy, jointly with a local partner, Suomen Biovoima Oy, which will act as a general EPC contractor. Site operation has already started with ground works, Schmack Biogas will immediately start with design activities, while installation operations are scheduled to begin next August.
The biogas produced will feed a CHP: the electrical and thermal energy generated will cover the needs of the WWTP, and the surplus electricity will be fed into the grid. The digestate, on the other hand, will be used as agricultural soil conditioner.
“A great example of circular economy: a WWTP that utilizes its own wastes to produce not only the energy needed for its operation, but also clean energy to be fed into the grid,” comment Nicolò Cariboni and Massimo Rossetto, Managing Directors of Schmack Biogas.
